WHY?
Why build a new boat this size?
We looked high and low from coast to coast and even to other continents. Despite our best efforts, nothing that quite fit our requirements existed.
Our needs:
Turns out from the buzz about this boat, we’re not the only ones with these needs.
We looked high and low from coast to coast and even to other continents. Despite our best efforts, nothing that quite fit our requirements existed.
Our needs:
- robust boat
- exceptional sailing characteristics
- large comfortable cockpit
- easy, efficient storage/moorage options
- trailerable
- multi-use platform - daysailing, instruction, racing, cruising
Turns out from the buzz about this boat, we’re not the only ones with these needs.
HOW?
How does one go from a drawing to a finished boat in 6 months?
Exceptional people build exceptional boats.
Our designer, Don Martin, is also an experienced builder. His presence on site and eye for the details has culminated in exceptional tooling for this new boat.
Our key advisor, Forbes Cooper, has around 40 years and some 8,500 builds to his credit. Many of Forbes’ former crew were suddenly available in December. Forbes suggested that if someone else didn’t build this boat, he would. The fastest decision on this project was the one to get started at that moment. We started with nothing but a few drawings on December 17, 2007.
Last time Forbes and Don collaborated, they produced the ultra-successful Catalina 27 under license by Catalina YachtsTM.
We are delighted to have David Cooper aboard heading up production as of May 1, 2008. Now that the tooling is complete, David is hand picking his team to build these new boats. David has experience building small boats, sailing experience and solid production management abilities - and, as with all our team, a playful sense of humour.
Craig Hanna’s assistance with this web site - pulling together loose concepts to something everyone can share here on the web does not go without sincere thanks.
I’m delighted to have this group of exceptional people - team M244 - with me as we take this new project to the water.
